Minecraft has grown from a cult classic to a true cultural phenomenon thanks to its retro, 8-bit style graphics and almost limitless potential to explore and create in a world made-up of 3D. The aim of the game is to build, build, build. But there's a catch - before you can build you need to acquire your resources. Chop down trees for wood, shear sheep for wool, and mine for the ores and metals you need to construct your house, castle, road... or replica Eiffel Tower!

On PC, Minecraft has two playing modes - Survival and Creative - giving you the choice to worry about things like 'health' or 'hunger' or to just build to your heart's content. On Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 there are a few more tricks, including a new crafting interface and split-screen multiplayer, so you can mine and build together. And the world will get bigger than ever when Minecraft arrives on Xbox One.
